New features in version 5.7 will be presented. In addition, we'll discuss changes to the data exchange development schedule and upcoming releases (summary below), as well as efforts under way to prioritize the larger list of development requests.

DX Update Summary:

Biotics work during the past few months has been focused on introducing two-way data exchange functionality into Biotics, with the goal of initiating data exchanges once version 5.7 was released. Due to a number of factors, we have decided to go ahead with the release of version 5.7 even though the data exchange functionality is not ready to be "turned on." As you can appreciate, the data exchange process is extremely complex and has to be perfected before it can be used in production databases. Testing is still ongoing and our developers are finalizing their code to ensure that data quality is preserved.

The 5.7 release will includes much of the underlying programming that will be used for data exchange, however that functionality will not be available right away. Instead, we are planning to release three interim versions in the September – October time frame that will provide the following data exchange capabilities:

  • 5.7.1 – Bulk exchange of global data into local databases (mid-September)
  • 5.7.2 – Bulk exchange of EO, Source Feature, MA, and Site data into central database (early October)
  • 5.7.3 – Ongoing, bidirectional exchanges (late October)
